Veins carry the deoxygenated blood from the body parts to the heart. If this blood flow gets obstructed or collected in the veins it leads to vein twisting or enlarging causing varicose veins. These are bulged, twisted and enlarged veins found at the surface of the skin. These veins appear purple or dark blue in color and are generally found on the legs and feet particularly on the calves. People who have these veins often get intolerable cramps. In severe cases along with the increase in pain, the veins get ruptured or may form varicose ulcers. The condition can also be developed in older people as their veins become weak due to age.
Other internal organs of the body where varicose veins can appear are; Pelvis, Rectum, Uterus, Esophagus and Vagina.
Causes of varicose veins
• Inflammation or itchiness of veins called as Phlebitis
• Blood clots or blockage in the blood flow in the veins
• Congenital disorders of the veins
• Obesity & Dehydration
• Pregnancy increases the blood volume in the body however reduces the flow of blood from legs to pelvis. Blood circulation is important to support the growing fetus but it can also bring about a side effects leading to enlarged veins in the legs.
Remedy 1: Mix little water to Fuller’s earth, commonly known as “Multani Mitti” and make a fine paste. Apply on the bulged vein area and leave it overnight. Wash it with warm water in the morning.
Remedy 2: Collect a few petals of the Marigold flower, wash them thoroughly and crush them forming a fine paste. Apply it to the affected areas and leave it overnight.
Remedy 3: Add two teaspoons of apple cider vinegar to a glass of water. Stir well and drink the mixture twice a day for a month. You will see the size of the bulged veins reducing.
Remedy 4: Garlic is a helpful herb to cure inflammation and also improves blood circulation by separating harmful toxins in the blood vessels. Hence gently massage garlic oil in a circulation motion on the affected area and wrap a warm cloth. Wash your legs in the morning. Do this procedure every night to see positive results. Garlic oil is made with 6 cloves garlic, 3 oranges and 2 tablespoons olive oil. Let the mixture stay for 12 hours before use.
Lifestyle changes that can help in reducing or curing varicose veins include; use of compression stockings, avoiding standing or sitting for long stretched hours, keep legs raised and elevated while sitting and sleeping, avoid crossed leg posture while sitting, cut down on fatty food, sugar and salt intake, eat foods that help in blood circulation, involve in physical exercise with a lot of leg movements and avoid wearing tight clothes and high heel footwear which unknowingly create pressure over the veins. Physical exercise is very important to maintain or reduce weight which will help in the blood flow and avoid unnecessary pressure on the veins.
