Diabetes Mellitus is commonly known as Diabetes. It is a condition which determines the person’s ability to process sugar and is a chronic disorder associated with high levels of sugar/glucose in the blood. Insulin is a hormone that regulates how body converts sugar into energy. In Diabetes, the body does not produce enough insulin or cells do not respond to the insulin which is produced.
Type 1 Diabetes: This is called Juvenile Diabetes or Insulin dependent diabetes. In this type the pancreas is unable to produce insulin at all since the person has very low response against his own body cells. Juvenile diabetes mostly occurs in children but can occur at any age too. To lead a normal life, a person has to take insulin along with routine exercise and proper diet. Increase urination and thirst, increased hunger and weight loss and blurred vision are some symptoms of type 1 diabetes.
Type 2 Diabetes: Type 2 diabetes is where the body becomes resistant to insulin. This is the most common type of diabetes occurring in 80% of adults. Deficiency of insulin or increased resistance of insulin occurs in type 2. Primary cause of this type is genetic. However, other factors like obesity, overweight, high BP, lack of exercise and overeating habits could also be the reasons. This type of diabetes is treated with exercise, diet control and some home natural home medication. If type 2 is not controlled it may lead to using insulin injections.
Gestational Diabetes: Women who develop diabetes during later stages of pregnancy is called as Gestational diabetes. Cause of this type of diabetes is hormonal imbalance during pregnancy and lack of insulin. Women are also at risk of developing type 2 diabetes in the next 5 to 10 years after pregnancy.
Natural cure recipes
1. Cut the skin of bitter gourd and make its juice in the juicer. Sieve to extract the juice. Drink the juice on empty stomach every morning.
2. Boil 1 liter of water; allow it to simmer on low flame for 20 minutes. Add 3 tablespoons of cinnamon powder; strain the mixture and drink the entire 1 liter of water daily.
3. Soak 4 tablespoons of fenugreek or methi seeds in 250 ml of water overnight. Crush the seeds in the same water in the morning. Sieve the mixture and drink the water daily. Do this for two months.
4. Avoid sugary foods like sweets in your diet. Eat 8-10 blackberries daily.
5. Eating 3-4 raw crushed garlic a day is also useful.
Supplements in a natural form are required for the body. Foods such as Spinach, beans and lentils, fish (mackerel), whole grains and low fat yogurt are rich in magnesium which helps control diabetes. Foods rich in Vitamin C& E are recommended. Chromium in the form of whole grains, mushrooms and corn oil are also valuable. Foods containing vitamin B should be avoided since it interferes with the absorption of insulin by the cells.
Exercises improve to the insulin levels in the body. Walking, jogging, swimming and yoga are some good exercises one can do. Controlling your weight is the best way to control diabetes.
