Why I often feel dizzy or weak during periods? You’re not alone; nearly 99% of teens and women felt dizziness during their periods. Do you why it’s happening? Here’s why: The vagus nerve travels from your brain stem to your abdomen, helps regulate your heartbeat. If the vagus nerve gets overstimulated, it decreases your blood pressure and heart rate – which results in dizziness and even fainting.
This type of dizziness is usually called as “Pre-Menstrual Syndrome (PMS)”. Do you know what it is? It’s a group of physical and psychological symptoms that start several days before and usually end a few hours after a menstrual period begins. Apart from dizziness, so many symptoms such as bad mood, irritability, bloating, and breast tenderness have been ascribed by PMS. But there is good news for you: i.e. the dizziness should start to fade as you reach your late 20s and early 30s and your hormonal fluctuations begin.
Even this syndrome is commonly found in all women, you can do the following to help relieve symptoms:
- Get enough rest and sleep.
- Exercise regularly, which may help lessen bloating as well as irritability, anxiety, and insomnia.
- Use stress reduction techniques (meditation or relaxation exercises).
- Avoid stressful activities.
- Consume more protein and calcium and less sugar and caffeine (including that in chocolate).
- Consume less salt, which often reduces fluid retention and relieves bloating.
You can also reduce the pain by wrapping up well in warm clothing, taking extra care with what you are eating and a general greater awareness of your health.
