Banana flower stir fry

We all eat bananas but, eating banana flower will make us frown.  Several questions might rise in your minds – is it edible?, is it healthy? how to eat it raw or cooked?  and How to cook it? Here we have the answer to all your questions.

Banana flower is one good source, which could add in a lot of potassium, Calcium, Phosphorous, Iron and Magnesium to your body.  It could help regulate the menstrual cycle in women, It can cure Anemia, Helps the kidney to function well, Reduces the blood pressure and strengthens the uterus.images2

Required Ingredients:

Banana flower
Buttermilk (To soak)
Mustard seeds
Turmeric
Daniya/corriander powder
Green Chillies
Salt
Hing
Chopped onion
Grated coconut
Curry leaves
Oil

How to clean banana flower?

Step 1: Take the Banana flower & open the leaves one by one. Collect the long yellow color flowers. Repeat this process and shed away the leaves.

Step 2: Shed the leaves until you arrive at the white part of the flower.

S1tep 3: Put the yellow color flower and the white part (flower’s heart) in a bowl of butter milk or water mixed with lemon juice. This is to avoid the discoloring of the plant.

Step 4: Here you go! You have successfully reached the hard process – cleaning the flowers!

Step 5: Pick up the flowers and arrange them in your palm. Hold them in a way that the flowers are on the top. Rub your other hand against the flowers. Now the stem of few flowers will start showing up, making your work a bit easier.

Step 6: At this point, keep only the flower and discard the stem & the petal from each flower, to avoid your dish tasting bitter.

Step 7: Chop the flowers & flower’s heart into small pieces and make them ready for the cuisine.

 

The process:

Step 1: Take a pan and add in 2 table spoon of oilimages

Step 2: Add in mustard seeds and wait until it sputters

Step 3: Now add in Chopped onion & green chilies, sauté them well

Step 4: Next include the chopped banana flower (drain well) in the pan

Step 5: Add salt, turmeric, Hing, curry leaves and Daniya/corriander powder (To taste)

Step 6: Splash a little water into the pan and cover it with a lid, wait until it is cooked

Step 7: After the dish is almost ready, put in the grated coconut and stir well

Step 8: The dish is now ready to devour!
