This can eventually help the patient get rid of it completely. It is a skin condition wherein dry flakes of skin scales are developed on various parts of the body like elbows, knees, scalp, etc. and it may become itchy if ignored for a long time. Along with the prescribed medication, a good diet helps in augmenting the treatment process. Such a diet concentrates on detoxifying the body, throwing out the toxic substances through urine rather than the skin. It has also been found that losing weight helps in controlling this disease. All in all, a gluten free diet, rich in vitamin D and fruits is considered very useful for people suffering from this problem since a long time.
Eating the Right Food

A lean-protein, low-fat diet; rich in fruits and vegetables not only helps in controlling psoriasis, but is effective for people suffering from heart diseases and diabetes.
The Psoriasis Diet
• People suffering from heart conditions and diabetes are more prone to psoriasis. Although the relationship between this skin problem and yeast has not been proven through any study, it has been observed that gluten free diet helps in controlling symptoms. Similarly, low fat dairy products are also advised in this situation, cutting out whole milk and full-fat cheese completely. Similarly fatty red meat is known to worsen the inflammation. Thus, such food should be avoided at all cost.
• Omega¬-3 fatty acids are known to reduce inflammation and help the immune system to a great extent. Fish like salmon, mackerel, sardines, etc. are good source of this and should be included in the diet at least twice a week.
• Antioxidants help in removing toxins from the body. Raw vegetables and fruits are rich in antioxidants and fibre which enable the body to easily flush out unwanted toxins from the bowel. Whole grains and nuts also have high contents of antioxidants. Fruits and vegetables like carrots, squash, sweet potatoes, spinach, kale, and broccoli are especially known to have inflammation reducing properties.
• Vitamins A and D promote healthy skin, which helps in fighting psoriasis. Cantaloupe, carrots, mango, tomatoes, and watermelon are good sources of Vitamin A. Nutritional supplements can also be taken for these vitamins and Omega-3 fatty acids. Oral administration Vitamin D has been found to have side effects and thus, it is not advisable. It can be absorbed through the skin by exposing it to fifteen minutes of sun light daily.
Psoriasis is an inflammatory problem and can get worse with time. Sometimes people get carried away by extreme diets that cause discomfort rather than soothing the problem. Therefore, before starting any diet, one must consult a doctor and understand what is best for him.
