Different Types of Psoriasis Treatment

Living with this itchy and distressing skin makes life troublesome! Treating psoriasis is not an easy thing. Also, there is no sure-fire treatment that can cure psoriasis. Psoriasis treatment involves, managing the symptoms, treating the flakes, alleviating the itchiness, preventing the aggravation of the condition, etc. So, a combination of treatment with healthy habits makes a good psoriasis treatment. Let us know about the different types of psoriasis treatment.

Topical Medications

Psoriasis, when diagnosed at an early stage can be improved well with topical creams, ointments and medicated moisturizers. To reduce the inflammation, topical medications with corticosteroids are prescribed. However, low potency topical creams are recommended. You can pick the natural moisturizers like aloe vera, coconut oil, tea tree oil, etc.

When the damaged skin appears extremely flaky and scaly, salicylic acid creams and lotions are prescribed to reduce scaling.

Remember, moisturizing the skin doesn’t treat psoriasis. Rather, it reduces the itchiness and scaling. When you scrap the itchy skin, the plaques may spread!

Light therapy or phototherapy is one of the effective treatments of psoriasis. This treatment uses a combination of natural light as well as artificial light.

Natural light – Exposure to sunlight. Exposure to sunlight has been considered harmful owing to the UV rays. Yet, here UV rays come handy! UV rays destroy the T cells, which leads to abnormal skin growth causing psoriasis. Besides, UV rays also reduce inflammation and alleviate the scaling of the skin! Yet, too much sun exposure can simply worsen the symptoms. Make it mild, get the sun exposure at short internals.

When it comes to artificial light therapy, UVA and UVB therapy is applied on the affected parts. Laser equipments are used to pass the light. However, artificial phototherapy has mild to moderate side effects.

Injections and Pills

While topical creams heal the external layer of skin, the body needs internal treatment to prevent outgrowth. Injections and oral medications are often diagnosed to prevent aggravation of symptoms.

In addition, natural supplements and healthy diet chart is also prescribed to naturally improve the immune system.

Self-care and management of symptoms play a major role in improving the condition. Regardless of type of treatment you take, self-care plays a vital role in overall healing.

In spite of combination psoriasis treatment, if you eat high salted or high acidic foods, the symptoms may get aggravated. A proper care should be ensured from bathing to sleeping to reduce psoriasis triggers.
